Three Decades at Sky Sports

The Voice of Boxing • Cancer Survivor • Broadcaster
Three decades at the heart of elite sports broadcasting followed by a life-changing cancer diagnosis give Adam a rare perspective on pressure, health, gratitude and reinvention.

Adam Smith became one of British boxing’s defining voices through three decades at Sky Sports, where he led coverage, shaped major broadcasts and commentated on iconic moments. Then invasive bladder cancer changed the context of pressure completely.

Adam served as Head of Boxing and lead broadcaster at Sky Sports, working in a live environment where preparation, judgement and communication had to stand up in front of millions.
His commentary, interviews and leadership helped define a major era of British boxing coverage. Energy, storytelling and calm authority became central to his professional identity.
Advanced invasive bladder cancer forced Adam away from the microphone and into major treatment. He has spoken openly about losing his bladder and prostate and adapting to life with a permanent stoma.
The experience demanded emotional and psychological recovery as well as surgery and treatment. It reshaped his priorities, empathy and understanding of what genuinely matters.
Adam now works across DAZN boxing coverage, talkSPORT, The Ring and his own Voice of Boxing platform, combining broadcasting, strategy, consultancy, writing, hosting and speaking.
As an ambassador for Fight Bladder Cancer, he uses his experience to encourage health awareness, early attention to symptoms and honest conversations about serious illness.

Joins Sky Sports and begins a broadcasting career that will span three decades across major boxing nights, interviews, documentaries and live commentary.
Becomes Head of Boxing at Sky Sports, taking responsibility for editorial leadership, talent, storytelling and the pressure of delivering major live fight nights.
Publishes Beautiful Brutality, his acclaimed book exploring the family ties, emotion and human cost behind boxing at the highest level.
Steps away from broadcasting after being diagnosed with advanced invasive bladder cancer. He undergoes major surgery removing his bladder and prostate, with 19 lymph nodes also removed, followed by chemotherapy and a permanent stoma.
Returns to broadcasting after a brutal recovery, including relearning to walk. He works across PFL, talkSPORT and BBC radio while rebuilding his confidence, health and professional identity.
Joins DAZN's UK boxing team as a leading on-air voice, continues weekly work with talkSPORT, writes for The Ring and grows his own The Voice of Boxing platform.
Deepens his advocacy and purpose-led work as an Ambassador for Fight Bladder Cancer and a trustee of the Ricky Hatton Foundation, while continuing motivational speaking and mentoring.
Leads major boxing commentary for DAZN, remains active on talkSPORT and The Ring, and develops a new book on Ricky Hatton while speaking on resilience, perspective and life after serious illness.

What live sport teaches about preparation, judgement, communication and staying clear when millions are watching.
How serious illness can change priorities, deepen empathy and create a different relationship with everyday life.
How identity can evolve after a major career or health disruption without losing the experience built before it.
Facing a life-threatening diagnosis, major surgery and the work of rebuilding physically and emotionally.
Clarity, preparation and credibility when the environment is live, fast and unforgiving.
What happens when success, health and ordinary moments are viewed through a completely different lens.
Using lived experience to encourage people to notice symptoms, act early and talk openly about health.
Carrying experience into a new chapter rather than allowing one disruption to define the future.
Turning a difficult personal experience into a message that can help other people.
